Read the file. Keep it local.
Inspect photo and video metadata locally
TRACE/MEDIA is a photo metadata extractor and video metadata inspector that reads available information in your browser. Files are never uploaded to the app server.
What metadata can be found?
Depending on the file, inspect EXIF camera details, capture time, GPS coordinates, video device model, codec, resolution, frame rate, and duration. Missing fields are not stored in the file or are unavailable to the parser.
How local inspection works
Choose a photo or video to read its embedded metadata in this browser. Review grouped results, follow a Google Maps link when valid GPS is found, or export the results as JSON.
Frequently asked questions about media metadata
Are my photos or videos uploaded?
No. Selected media is parsed locally in your browser. The original file is not sent to the TRACE/MEDIA app server.
Why is GPS or device information missing?
The file may not contain those tags. Cameras and editing or sharing apps can omit, remove, or rewrite metadata.
Which formats are supported?
Common image formats include JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, and BMP. Common videos include MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, WMV, FLV, and 3GP.
